What a whirlwind of a weekend, folks! The Penguins were out in full force, and let me tell you, it was a scene worthy of a reality show. First up, we had 13 fabulous ladies who took on the Spar Women’s Race, and let me just say, the course was so flat it made a pancake look hilly!
As they lined up at the start, you could feel the excitement in the air—or was that just the collective nervousness of trying to remember where they parked? With the starting horn, they took off like rockets! Or, more accurately, like a flock of well-organized ducks waddling with purpose. The flat course was a gift from the running gods, and our ladies soared through it, each step accompanied by cheers, laughter, and the occasional, “Did I remember to put on deodorant?”
Meanwhile, just when you thought it couldn’t get any more exciting, the next day brought a different challenge. Three brave souls decided to tackle the hilly 10km at Cape St Francis. Now, if you thought the pancake course was flat, these hills were more like roller coasters! As they approached the first incline, you could practically hear them muttering, “What fresh hell is this?” But with the spirit of true Penguins, they dug deep, fluffed their feathers, and waddled on, navigating the hills like champions—or at least like determined penguins who forgot their GPS.
But wait, there’s more! Two additional Penguins were feeling particularly adventurous (or perhaps a little overzealous) and decided to tackle the 21.1 km Cape St Francis Run. While most people were enjoying a leisurely Sunday, these two intrepid runners were conquering what felt like the entire mountain range! As they climbed, they joked about how they might as well be running to the moon, and the only thing missing was a cheering squad of supportive seals.
The camaraderie among the Penguins was infectious. Whether they were speeding down the flat course or battling the hills, there was a shared sense of accomplishment that brought them together. Post-race, you could find them swapping stories over snacks, with everyone boasting about their “epic” feats—“I totally saw the top of that hill!” or “I might have eaten my weight in snacks at the finish line!”
So here’s to all the remarkable Penguins who tackled this busy weekend head-on! From flat courses to challenging hills, you’ve proven that the spirit of the Penguin is unbreakable. As we look forward to more adventures, remember: whether you’re gliding smoothly or climbing mountains, the most important thing is to have fun and keep waddling!
Until next time, keep your flippers strong, and your spirits higher!
